The following models are very popular and ones that you may like to consider: Plustek Dedicated film scanner suitable for most home purposes. Good all round quality. High resolution gives good prints quality up to A4. Remember though, this model scans film only so you can’t scan prints or documents. Epson 4870 (and later models) Flat bed scanner suitable for most purposes. High quality scanning for slides, negatives and prints and documents. Comes with negative and slide holders and Epson and Silverfast software including digital ICE and spot removal facilities. Excellent all rounder. I use the 4870 for all my scanning, including all the shots in this book taken from film. Nikon VED This a very high quality dedicated film scanner for negatives and slides currently considered by most professionals to be the best. However, it as also the most expensive. This model also scans film only so you can’t scan prints or documents. Before buying a scanner make sure you list down all the things you will want to scan and check potential scanners to see they will do this. Also check out several different suppliers to check for the best prices and don’t forget to make sure that suitable scanning software is included. Also check if free image editing software is included in the deal - like Photoshop Elements for example. Please remember, that if you subsequently want to produce prints from your scans, you will need a good quality photo printer as well. This need not be a problem though as you can now buy excellent quality printers from any of the leading manufacturers well under £100. |
