They are rightly popular as they enable you to slip them into your pocket and are ready for use in an instant. This type of camera is ideal for general shooting and many professionals carry one in addition to their expensive main equipment for grabbing shots they might otherwise miss.
SLR Style
This style of camera bridges between the compact and the genuine digital SLR. They are comfortable to hold and probably more suitable for people who want more features and a bit more control over shooting.
They are generally more expensive than the compacts and have more features allowing the photographer choose between many different modes of shooting and exposure.
They are also popular with ex film SLR cameras users who like the look and feel of the more chunky body styling.
